Located just outside of Yirgacheffe, Haru is one of the first washing stations in Ethiopia. Set up in the 1970's, owner Komilachu has created a piece of Ethiopian history by bringing quality Ethiopian coffee to a worldwide audience.
Haru is comprised of cherries brought to the washing station from many smallholders that live locally. After hand sorting to remove any noticeable defects, the coffee is dried on raised beds for roughly 21 days. The dried coffee is then hulled to remove the husk, and stored, before being transported to Addis Ababa for sorting, grading, and export.
TDS (total dissolved solids) and pH readings of the water at Haru are taken regularly, to better control their fermentation times and increase their consistency and quality.
