Twongere Kawa Coko stands as a shining example of female empowerment in Rwanda's Northern Province. Founded in 2009 by eleven women, this cooperative has revolutionized the local coffee industry under the steadfast leadership of Thérèse Nyrangwabije, the current president. With a commitment to supporting one another, these pioneering women have overcome numerous challenges to build a flourishing business that now serves as a model for sustainable development in agriculture.

Today, the cooperative is predominantly female-run, with women making up 75% of its 384 members. These women are not only stakeholders but also lead key operations and decision-making processes that shape the future of Twongere Kawa Coko. This female-driven leadership structure has fostered an environment of inclusivity and growth, enabling the cooperative to implement innovative farming practices and expand its market reach.

Twongere Kawa Coko’s leadership extends beyond coffee production. They actively participate in community well-being by providing essential training on topics such as income generation, sustainable farming, and climate change adaptation. Their proactive approach to leadership and community engagement has empowered many other women in the region, inspiring them to take active roles in their own farms and beyond.

The Natural variety of their Bourbon coffee, cultivated and processed by this inspiring group, embodies the essence of their dedication. Grown at high altitudes and processed with precision, this coffee boasts a clean and vibrant profile with crisp acidity and delicate floral notes, making each cup a testament to the strength and resilience of the women of Twongere Kawa Coko.
