A special coffee for Thomson's - our first Tanzanian coffee and a project we are proud to support. This coffee comes from smallholders in the Mbeya, Mwankumbi region of Tanzania and is processed by a group of widows. Neema a recent widow decided to group together with other women farmers who faced difficulties selling their coffee. She is the sole breadwinner of her family supporting six children. The price we pay for this coffee via our UK importer the Little Coffee Company ensures that Neema & her group of widows receive nearly double their normal household income
The coffee is AA grade and fully-washed. Farmers deliver the cherries from 4-7pm. After being pulped the parchment is graded into P1,2,3 and pods in the washing channels. P1 and P2 are fermented for 24-48 hours, before they get washed. Then they go into tanks again for soaking, for 8-12 hours. The drying on the tables takes around 7-14 days.
