Vunga coffee is the washing station located in Kazirankara Village in the Western province of Rwanda. There are 12 sites for cherry collection and each site has a collector who transports the coffee cherries by bicycle. These farms are located on loamy sand soils on high altitude hills surrounding the rivers of Mukungwa and Nyabarongo.


Vunga coffee processes only ripe red cherries and not a mixture of coffee cherries such as over or under ripe ones. The sorting of coffee cherries occurs by immersion in water. Bad or unripe fruits will float and the good fruit will sink. After 12 hours of fermentation, the coffee is thoroughly washed in clean water and all mucilage is removed from the beans.

The cup profile tends to have a deep red wine flavour with rich sweetness and bright characteristics.

Vunga has won in the Cup of Excellence Competition in both 2012 and 2014.
