INFO

Nestled in the heart of Ethiopia's esteemed coffee region, the Chancho Washing Station, operated by DWD, represents the pinnacle of coffee innovation and tradition. Established in 2021, this 3-hectare station is strategically located in the Sidama region, Bensa Woreda, near the village of Gemecho. Just 12 km from the main road, Chancho sits at an impressive altitude of 2300-2400 meters, offering ideal conditions for growing exceptional coffee.

The harvest season at Chancho stretches from November to February, a period when the climate is most favorable for coffee cultivation. Here, cherries are meticulously sorted by highly skilled teams upon arrival at the drying beds, ensuring only the best quality. The station sources its coffee from 500 to 700 local farmers, with whom DWD collaborates closely. By providing seeds, advance payments, and specialized training, DWD empowers farmers to be hyper-selective in their harvesting, adding significant value to the production.

One of Chancho's unique features is its sustainable transport methods. Coffee cherries are transported by donkey or horse to the station, a practice that not only preserves the quality of the cherries but also avoids the environmental impact of engine smoke.

Chancho boasts a significant advantage in its location, sitting at the center of a coffee-growing area. This proximity enables easy cherry delivery and ensures exact traceability to the Sidama appellation, a mark of quality and authenticity. The coffee plantations are graced with a diverse array of native trees, including Grawa, Bisana, Wanza, and Popocarpus falcatus, among others. These trees not only provide shade but also contribute to the unique flavor profile of the coffee.

Chancho Coffee offers a taste that is as rich and diverse as the land it comes from. Expect a cup with vibrant acidity, complemented by a spectrum of flavors ranging from floral notes to hints of local fruits and spices. This coffee is perfect for those who appreciate a brew with depth, complexity, and a true sense of place.
